Prime Minister's Athlete Scholarships
The Government established the Prime Minister's Athlete Scholarships in late 2000 to ensure athletes were provided with education opportunities in order to better support their careers after sport.

The Prime Minister’s Athlete Scholarship pay fees up to $10,000 a year and a living allowance of up to $6,000 a year to successful scholarship recipients, dependent on the athlete’s sporting performance and study load.

The Programme is managed by SPARC on behalf of the Government and administered by the New Zealand Academy of Sport.  Scholarships are aligned to SPARC's High Performance strategy 2006-2012 and scholarships must impact SPARC's High Performance mission "More New Zealanders winning on the world stage"

The number of athletes to receive a Prime Ministers Athlete Scholarship in the North Island is over 200 in 2008. If you wish to view the full list of athletes on a Prime Minister's Athlete Scholarship in 2008 nationwide click here
