NZOC Athletes Commission

Have you heard of the NZOC Athletes Commission?  The aim of the Athletes Commission is to make a difference and be a voice for athletes when it comes to making decisions about athletes.  The Athlete Life Programme is working with the Athletes Commission and IOC Athlete Career programme to make an integrated approach to services to athletes.

It is a group of up to 12 New Zealand athletes who represent athletes associated with New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games teams and was established in 1986. Some of the issues the Athletes Commission have been involved in include:

  • Ensuring the athletes’ perspective is heard by NZOC and other national bodies
  • Appointing a team of athletes to assist in the design of uniforms
  • Negotiating the athletes’ contract for Olympic and Commonwealth Games teams
  • Assisting athletes who have a dispute with their federation

If you would like to pass on any comments or feedback to the Athletes Commission, please e-mail the NZOC office on office@olympic.org.nz
