OUR MISSION: To provide world leading support to enable NZ athletes and coaches to achieve international success NZAS North Island is closely aligned with the SPARC high performance strategy through 2012. The SPARC performance target is to win at least 10 Medals at the 2012 Olympics, and 3 World Championships (Cricket, Netball, Rugby) by 2012. We are committed to making a major difference to NZ high performance sport by creating a world-leading, integrated high performance support environment.
Our Strategic Priorities:
1. Increase the impact of our people and programmes to assist Carded Athletes and Coaches to achieve international success
2. Optimise relationships to maximise the benefits of the NZ high performance system for NSO HP programmes, Carded Athletes and Coaches
3. Provide world class facilities for NSO HP Programmes, Carded Athletes and Coaches
4. Develop NZAS North Island’s profile to increase our support and recognition 
New Zealand Academy of Sport North Island is committed to the achievement of excellence in high performance sport though an athlete-focused, coach-led and a sport science-supported approach. We invest in people who will add value by taking a leadership role in the support of the programmes and initiatives of each sport. The responsibility for high performance sport planning and accountability for subsequent results lies with the respective national sporting organisations. Our role is to complement their efforts in areas that will best enable the high performance athletes and coaches to achieve international podium results. CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS: The New Zealand Academy of Sport North Island believes the following factors are critical to success in high performance sport: - Talented committed athletes

- Support for national sport organisations' talent identification and development systems

- Sports science specialisation in biomechanics, exercise physiology, sports psychology, nutrition, physical conditioning and anthropometry
- Sports medicine specialists including physicians and physiotherapy, podiatry, sports vision and chiropractors
- Opportunities and support for the development of athletes and coaches career and education including scholarships and vocational placements
Underpinning all of the above factors is appropriate funding support for facilities, personnel and programmes and services. |
